Code of Conduct for Parents, Guardian, Visitors & Children
This Code of Conduct is an unsigned agreement between the Parent, Guardian, Visitor, Child/Children and Wise Owl Education.
Terms used within this document:
- ‘School’ – Wise Owl Education (who deliver lessons at the host play centre/online).
- ‘Centre’ – the host play centre where academic lessons are delivered.
The purpose of this code of conduct is to provide the expectations around the conduct of all children, parents, guardians and visitors to our school. We all recognise that the education of the children attending Wise Owl Education is a partnership between us and as such, we expect school premises and equipment to be treated with respect and a good example of behaviour to be set by all on our school/centre premises.
In addition, we also expect our parents, guardians and visitors to keep children safe by adhering to the school and centre rules and that all parents and guardians remain on the centre premises whilst their child attends lessons at Wise Owl Education.
We are committed to resolving difficulties in a constructive manner, through an open and positive dialogue. However, we understand that occasionally everyday misunderstandings can cause frustrations and have a negative impact on relationships. Should issues arise, or misconceptions take place, please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance. Where issues remain unresolved, please follow the school’s complaints procedure. Please email the Operations Manager: info@wiseowl-education.co.uk or call the Head Office on: 0345 095 0070.
This code aims to clarify the types of behaviour that will not be tolerated and seeks parental agreement to these expectations.
The code of conduct also sets out the actions the school can take should this code be ignored or where breaches occur.
Behaviour that will not be tolerated:
- Disruptive behaviour which interferes or threatens to interfere with any of the schools’ normal operation or activities anywhere within an online setting, on the school or centre premises.
- If attending an online class, turning off cameras (unless there is a fault) for the duration of the lesson.
- Any inappropriate behaviour.
- Using loud or offensive language or displaying temper.
- Threatening behaviour in any way, towards a member of staff, visitor, fellow parent/guardian or child.
- Damaging or destroying school or centre property.
- Sending abusive or threatening emails or text/voicemail/phone messages or other written communications (including social media) to anyone within the school community.
- Defamatory, offensive or derogatory comments regarding the school/centre or any of the pupils/parents/staff at the school on any social media sites.
- The use of physical, verbal or written aggression towards another adult or child. This includes physical punishment of your own child on school premises.
- Not adhering to the published host centre’s ‘Rules of Play’ (a copy of which can be found on the centre’s website and on display within the centre).
- Smoking, vaping, taking illegal drugs or the consumption of alcohol on school premises or within an online setting.
- Dogs being brought on to the school/centre premises. (Other than guide/assistance dogs, which is at the centre’s discretion).
Should any of the above occur on school/centre premises or in connection with a school/centre, action may be taken by contacting the appropriate authorities or consider banning the offending adult or child from entering the school/centre premises.
Thank you for abiding by this code in our school. Together we create a positive and uplifting environment not only for the children who attend our school but for all visitors to the host play centre.
It is important for parents and guardians to be made aware of this policy.
What happens if someone ignores or breaks the code?
In the event of any parent/guardian or visitor found to be breaching this code, then proportionate actions will be taken as follows:
In cases where the unacceptable behaviour is considered to be a serious and potentially criminal matter, the concerns will in the first instance be referred to the Police. This will include any or all cases of threats or violence and actual violence to any child, staff or visitor in the school, this will also include anything that could be seen as a sign of harassment of any member of staff. In cases where evidence suggests that behaviour would be tantamount to libel or slander, then the school will take legal representation in advance of possible further action. In cases where the code of conduct has been broken but the breach was not libellous, slanderous or a criminal matter, then the school will contact the parent/guardian to arrange a suitable day/time to discuss the matter.
If the parent/carer refuses to engage in conversation to resolve the matter, then the school will write to the parent/guardian and ask them to stop the behaviour causing the concern, warning that if they do not stop, they may be banned from the school. If after this behaviour continues, the parent/guardian will again be written to and informed that a ban is now in place.
Note:
(1) A ban from the school can be introduced without having to go through all the steps offered if deemed to be serious enough by the Head of Education.
(2) Site bans will normally be limited in the first instance.
If parents have any concerns about their child in relation to the school, they should:
- Initially speak to the class teacher.
- If the concern remains they should contact the Operations Manager: info@wiseowl-education.co.uk or call the Head Office on: 0345 095 0070
